The final Friday night of the final week sees Saucon Valley crowned as the sole champions of the Colonial League for the 2016 season. A big night for Northwestern's Cunningham evens the Tiger's record. Palmerton wraps up a 2nd seed in the District playoffs.
In Saturday's action, Pen Argyl, behind the running of Logan Sterner, won the 97th meeting with Bangor. Luke Strauss paced Southern Lehigh in their win over Salisbury and Notre Dame ran from Wilson. This is it! Week 10 has arrived and the regular season is coming to a close. One game determines the fate of four teams' hopes of winning the 2016 Colonial League title. Saucon Valley (8-1) hosts Palisades (7-2). A Saucon win gives them sole accolades as Champs. A Pirate win forces Saucon to share to the title with Palisades, Southern Lehigh, and Notre Dame as they will all have identical records of 8-2. History is not on Palisades side as Saucon holds the series record of 27-12-2.
Palmerton (4-5) hosts Northern Lehigh (4-5) in a traditional rivalry game that has the Bombers holding a 43-36-2 edge. The game has seeding implications with Palmerton hoping to secure a 2nd seed in the D11-2A bracket and a first-round home game. Northwestern (4-5) travels to Catasauqua (2-7). Oddly enough, Catty still has a shot to make the post-season field but they need a win and some help. The Tigers lead this series 14-10. In an odd twist, the league has three Saturday games. Notre Dame-GP (7-2) travels to Wilson (0-9) in hopes of locking down the top seed in 3A. Wilson leads the series 28-19-1. Southern Lehigh (7-2) visits Salisbury (2-7) for a chance to seal the deal on the 5A 2nd seed with a chance to be the top seed with help. Spartans lead the closely contested series 23-22-2. The most heralded league match up will pit two teams meeting for their 97th time. Pen Argyl (7-2), which leads the series 49-43-2, looks to gain a win and a shot at the league title and head into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league. Just when you thought it was safe to call it a season and declare a champion, the old fly-in-the ointment is found. Saucon Valley pulls off another nail-biting win over Notre Dame to return to the top of the Colonial League standings.
Palisades drubs Pen Argyl to stet up a week 10 Colonial League showdown to determine a league title. A win by Saucon and they take home their third straight title. With Southern Lehigh's win, a victory by Palisades next week could knot four teams as co-champions of the Colonial League. Northern Lehigh and Palmerton record key victories to clinch their spot in the District XI tournament. In another exciting game, Bangor came back from a three touchdown deficit to to earn their third win of the year. It's coming down to crunch time. Notre Dame-Green Pond (7-1) has an opportunity to sew up a share of their first Colonail League title with a win over Saucon Valley (7-1). Saucon Valley could put itself in the driver's seat to win a share of their third straight CL crown with a win.
Another showdown pits Pen Argyl (5-2), fresh off their win last night against Notre Daem, traveling to Kintnersville to take on Palisades (5-2). Both have qualified for Districts but are still fighting for that outside shot at the league title. Northern Lehigh (3-5) fights for a spot in the District playoffs as they face rival Northwestern (4-4) in the game that means more than just wins and losses. Palmerton (3-5) has been turning around its season and looks for a playoff spot of their own as they host Salisbury (2-6). Southern Lehigh (6-2) takes on Catasauqua (2-6) and one of the longest and most unheralded rivalries takes place as Wilson (0-7) visits Bangor (2-6). For the third straight week, an upset rules the weekend.This time, the top of the standings gets a little cloudy and adds special meaning for Week 9 games. Pen Argyl made statement to the league and the District that they are for real with a no-doubt-about-it win over undefeated Notre Dame.

The Week 9 match-ups pits Saucon Valley against Notre Dame again with the league championship on the line. The Pen Argyl-Palisades clash has added meaning and could also have league ramifications. Throughout the four classifications, numerous teams are in need of key wins this weekend to stay in the hunt for a District berth.
Catasauqua (2-5) is fighting for a 2A playoff spot with this week's opponent in Palmerton (2-5). Salisbury (2-5) meets Northern Lehigh (2-5) with both teams clinging to its post-season life. A resurgent Bangor (2-5) team is looking to be spoilers for Palisades (5-2). Saucon Valley (6-1) hosts Wilson (0-7). In the two marquee games of the week, Southern Lehigh (5-2) faces Northwestern (4-3) with playoff implications involved, and on Saturday, the big game of the week, Notre Dame GP (7-0) visits Pen Argyl (5-2). In this highly competitive season, there is a chance for a five-way tie for the league title. As crazy as it might seem, a Pen Argyl win this week over Notre Dame, a Saucon win next week over Notre Dame, and a Palisades win over Saucon in week 10 could give us just that. This would leave five teams, Notre Dame, Saucon Valley, Palisades, Pen Argyl, and Southern Lehigh with identical records at 8-2. That also means the games not mentioned would have to line up with the stars as well. In a hard-to-predict season full of surprises, the idea that this would happen is probable, but highly unlikely; but it is a fun scenario to discuss. I've always believed the Colonial League season is two halves. The first half sets up the second, but nothing is guaranteed. For the second week in a row we see an upset. Bangor, off to a poor start and with their coach resigning, found a way to knock off the author of last week's upset to gain their second win of the year.
Notre Dame staved of a threat by Catty to remain as the lone unbeaten team. Saucon Valley had a threat of its own as it maintained pace for the showdown with the Crusaders for the league title. Palisades came from a two touchdown deficit to halt another upset bid. The only sure win of the night saw Pen Argyl make their road trip to Allentown worth while with a mercy rule win. On Saturday, Southern Lehigh blanked Wilson. Week Seven features a set of interesting match-ups. A pair of high flying offenses meet as Catasauqua and Notre Dame face off. A pair ground gainers rumble together as Northern Lehigh visit Saucon Valley. A pair of teams on a roll meet up as Palmerton hosts Palisades.
Salisbury is in a fight for its playoff life as they host Pen Argyl. In the final Friday Night game, Northwestern hopes to keep its moment after last week's big win as they travel to Bangor.
